What's the latest on the direct PE groups of Temasek and GIC? Would be very thankful for any insights on culture, hours, reputation and compensation. Especially interested in their London office and their analyst programs.
Hey Analyst 1 in IB - Cov, I'm the WSO Monkey Bot and I'm here since nobody responded to your topic! Bummer...could just be unlucky but one of these topics will help shed some light:
Temasek and GIC are two separate entities. In terms of caliber of people, track record and industry reputation in general, I would put GIC a tier above Temasek.
Idk why this is getting that much MS.. from Temasek’s recent year performance and just by doing a quick search on LinkedIn, quality of people exiting to GIC seems stronger on average compared to Temasek, at least where their headquarters are based in Asia.
From what I've seen as a local university student in Singapore, in terms of selectivity GIC has always been a notch above Temasek. At least this is the case in Asia, but not sure about UK. Very few investment seats available at GIC in their pipeline GIC Internship Program compared to the Temasek Associate Internship program. If I'm not wrong, GIC's direct PE team had not really taken anyone in the last few cycles and if they do it's always only 1 or 2 spots. Additionally, Temasek seems to be more willing to hire with their 6 months Project Intern off cycle programs of which many use as a stepping stone to other places. In terms of comp, I believe both are similar at the junior level with hours being slightly longer at Temasek.
In terms of their analyst programs, I believe you can't get placed directly in the PE team at GIC unless you are a lateral or returning intern. As for their graduate program, the GIC Professionals Program, it seems that you rotate across investment classes based on business needs and preference before getting placed on a particular vertical. At Temasek, main analyst pipeline comes from their Associate Internship program and you get placed on a particular strategy/industry coverage team from there (Agri-food, Innovation, etc.)
