Why does PE require an MBA? Wouldn’t it require you to halt your life if you started working then left for 2 years to get MBA?
In banking you can be promoted to an analyst from within and an MBA is no longer necessary. However, in PE you need an MBA it seems no matter the experience. Why is this the case? You’d have minimal income for 2 years while you pursue an MBA, am I wrong?
Please enlighten me as I am not super knowledgeable on the subject.
An MBA gives bankers the opportunity to expand their network outside of finance, which in theory can help them in the future source deals. Additionally, an MBA can help traditional PE candidates (strong finance/modelling skills) develop softer skills such as consulting and operations to run portfolio companies.
so your ivy league MBA will make you seem fancy and smart when you ask CalPERS or IBEW Local 69 to put millions of dollars in your new fund
