I'm currently at MBB and considering recruiting for PE, with the intention of leaving a year later for an MBA. Are there any issues that could be caused by leaving so quickly?
It may peeve your firm a bit if they were expecting you to stay for 2-3 years and if you recruit for PE roles out of your MBA, there are many places that likely won't consider you or deprioritize you for VP / senior associate roles. I only have one data point for this (2 years IB / 1 year PE) and that person predominantly got second year associate and senior associate looks and far fewer VP interviews.
I echo this person’s comments. I’m just not sure if any PE firm recruiting out of a consultancy wants the new associate to leave after a year. If you are upfront about wanting to only work there for a year and the firm is cool with that, then I don’t see an issue from that perspective. Not sure how the mba admission people may view you as compared to others with more exp though. Just don’t have much insight into that process beyond just second hand knowledge that I think the admission people like work experience but not sure how much they like
