Would you try to leave?
Hi, here's a scenario I'm facing - I'm curious on people's views and how they would manage - thanks!
Currently have a manager that's the favorite of some of the partners of the fund - been there for a long time and shown loyalty. Issue is, the person constantly blames others (esp people working for him) for problems not caused by them, which makes these people look bad. Higher-ups are oblivious / can't see the details. Already a few people left / got fired.
Honestly don't feel great about this manager - but do you guys think this is just industry average or am I over-reacting?
Not a great situation, but hard to say without more details... do you like the firm otherwise, do the higher-ups like you, how long have you been there?
Generally would tell you to start looking. Unfortunately this kind of situation is a little hard to diligence in an interview setting. You will find people you don't get along with at many firms, but if this manager is really ruining your experience might be time to move on.
Firm is otherwise okay - I like some of the seniors but he's managed to fire ppl despite that before...
If you get fired, it will be harder to find another job, and people will be less likely to believe your story. Lateral now while you still can. I have not seriously feared any manager will try and fire me for things I didn't do.
