2 interviews in far city

Short question, but wanted to get opinions on how to move forward.

I'm currently based in on the East Coast, and have been networking with groups in Southern California. A small fund wants to fly me to LA in two weeks for a final interview; at the same time, I've had three phone interviews/info calls with a BB's group in LA.

The BB is moving pretty slow, and the Director I made initial contact with is no longer in the picture, it's more HR doing the coordinating now, and last I heard was "blah blah, this is great, well get to you when we are moving forward, call with any questions.."

I know I don't have an offer with either in hand, but the BB group does really cool work. Should I call the Director and ask if he wants to meet for coffee or something BC I'll be in his city in two weeks, or hit up the HR people and tell them the situation? Or stay put and wait on HR?

It really sucks to be in the hands of HR depts of giant organizations... Wanted to see what you all thought

Not knowing anything else except what you've described in your post, I'd probably hit the Director up to let him know you're going to be out in LA and wanted to see if he wants to grab coffee. Personally, I wouldn't say off the bat "I'm going out there for an interview," because I wouldn't want to seem like I'm advertising it, but IF HE ASKS and you tell him, and they actually are interested, I imagine that would serve to motivate them in speeding up the process. Good luck
