Best way to jump start my understanding of the market

Hi guys,

I know this is a very broad topic but I'm new to CRE and would love to get some advice from people who have gone before me. Last month, I just started my first real estate job as an analyst at a relatively small firm, so my knowledge is minimal.

In the short time I've been with the company, I've been getting the feeling that the market is starting to shift. I feel like it'd be extremely valuable for me and my career to experience a market shift and really understand the changes and impacts that could come. So, what would you recommend are some of the best and most efficient ways to get feel for the market I'm in? Given my lack of experience, it's nearly impossible for me to look at a property and give a reasonable estimate on what the market cap would be. I've been reading market reports and have taken notes on the projects I've been involved with so far but I still don't have a great grasp. Would it be a good idea to look at past deals the firm has underwritten or should I get as many OM's as I can and track what they sell for? I know a lot of it comes from experience and time in the business but is there any way to jump start that process?

Any recommendations are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
