Boss leaving the firm?

Currently at a semi-large fund where deal flow has naturally ground to a halt with the current market behavior. One of the few originators in our (satellite) office is gearing up to leave. Has anyone been a junior on a team where a rainmaker in one of the markets you cover leaves? What tends to happen?

Sure you could be placed in another team but that is not the best situation for you personally, ideally you will be asked by the rainmaker to join him. Sure you could ask but usually you will be asked to join if he likes you. Typically that move comes with a pay bump, that's why it is seen as a good move. The fact that you are already in a satellite office is a concern. Those offices live and die by the rainmakers there and odds are it will take a while for them to fill that position and there are only so many rainmakers in a market where the satellite office is.
