Boss leaving the firm?
Currently at a semi-large fund where deal flow has naturally ground to a halt with the current market behavior. One of the few originators in our (satellite) office is gearing up to leave. Has anyone been a junior on a team where a rainmaker in one of the markets you cover leaves? What tends to happen?
Hi Investment Analyst in RE - Other, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:
More suggestions...
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
You will most likely be let go or if they really like you placed in another group.
What?!?! Stop spreading fear for no reason.
Happened in my office. We now just support other offices (originators in other parts of the country) and provide help to asset management. No one was let go.
Sure you could be placed in another team but that is not the best situation for you personally, ideally you will be asked by the rainmaker to join him. Sure you could ask but usually you will be asked to join if he likes you. Typically that move comes with a pay bump, that's why it is seen as a good move. The fact that you are already in a satellite office is a concern. Those offices live and die by the rainmakers there and odds are it will take a while for them to fill that position and there are only so many rainmakers in a market where the satellite office is.
This. Usually the entire team goes with him. If thats not the case and given that this is a satelitte office, your job security is a bit at risk considering he is the rainmaker. Unless they can hire somebody else .
Before I can answer as I’ve been in a similar situation: is this PE and is this guy one of the originators (not the sole) and not a key executor ie he doesn’t negotiate the docs / MIP etc? Thank you
