Capital markets financial analyst interview process at RE brokerage (CBRE/JLL/Cushman)

Hi all,

Could anyone share what the interview process typically looks like for the LA office including how many rounds there are and what’s covered in the modeling test? The JD says candidate is expected to lead execution of more complex financial analysis/modeling requests.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the interview process for a capital markets financial analyst role at top real estate brokerages like CBRE, JLL, or Cushman typically involves multiple rounds and a modeling test. Here's what you can expect:

  1. Rounds of Interviews:

    • Initial Screening: This is often a phone or video interview with HR or a recruiter to assess your background, interest in the role, and basic qualifications.
    • Technical/Behavioral Rounds: These are conducted by team members or managers. Expect questions about your experience, understanding of real estate markets, and technical skills.
    • Final Round: This may involve senior team members or directors and could include a case study or presentation.
  2. Modeling Test:

    • The modeling test is a key component, especially for roles requiring complex financial analysis. Based on previous WSO threads, the test often involves:
      • Building or analyzing a real estate financial model, such as an apartment or hotel model.
      • Calculating major metrics like IRR (Internal Rate of Return), cash-on-cash returns, or cap rates.
      • Potentially working with multifamily or commercial property data.
    • Familiarity with Excel and real estate-specific modeling techniques is crucial.
  3. Key Skills to Highlight:

    • Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
    • Understanding of real estate investment metrics and valuation methods.
    • Ability to handle complex data and provide actionable insights.

If you're preparing for this role, brushing up on real estate financial modeling and practicing with templates or case studies (like those available in the WSO Elite Modeling Package) can be highly beneficial.
