Co-invest / Carry at MF
Anyone know what co-investing / carry looks like at big funds like BX, Carlyle, Brookfield, etc? Curious at what level this becomes an option and what the structure/economics might look like.

Second hand knowledge, but the people I talked to about it said carry starts at the associate level, and has become much worse over the past few years (i.e., carry is much less). Also, very secretive and they dont like people telling each other what each person has.
For sure, my experience is with just one of the firms listed above so ymmv for other ones.
Why has carry gotten worse or the pie gotten smaller? Has anyone provided any info on this? The amount of capital being raise has only increased, so I would suspect the pool got larger?
I just have friends complaining about how if they came in a couple of years ago they'd be much better off from a carry perspective. I don't think the pie has gotten smaller, I think it's just distributed differently. Again, I only have close ties at one of those shops and it'll probably vary by shop.
