CRE Comp BisNow Survey

Hi Monkeys,

Thought this would be of interest to y'all since there are multiple threads on CRE Comp here. BisNow just reported on a database, personalsalary.com, to track salaries within CRE and among other industries. Some initial takeaways from the study:

  • Women appear to be earning 15% less than men on average, industry-wide.

  • Women are earning bonuses 21% smaller than those of their male counterparts in the same positions, on average.

  • Total Comp reported for a Senior VP in Acquisitions is 510K in NY, 480K in SF, and 430K in LA all in.

I haven't filled it out, but I believe that the data is anonymous and is distributed to respondents of the survey. So I'd encourage you to contribute.

Those are crap stats. I mean thank you for the post, and I'm not shooting the messenger.

Compared to what, and in what jobs. On average is bullshit, it should be modal or median. Do these women have the same years of experience, do they work the same hours? Anecdotally, from my experience not every woman in RE puts in the hours at work, now not all men do either, but there are more men working later hours than women...on average.

CRE is also unique in that experience is skewed in industry. If you had 3 years in valuations before being an associate in REPE would you be expected to be paid the same as someone who maybe came from a top brokerage or started in REPE? It is usually these questions that account for the difference in compensation.
