Cutoff for Pro-Rated Bonus
Assuming you join a company at some point that's in the latter half of the year, at what point in the year would you expect the company not to give you a pro-rated bonus? I personally think if you're doing meaningful work (ie not just ramp-up training) then you should get the portion of the year you worked but could see arguments for 1,2 months from the company pov. Anything longer than that you're saying a quarter of the year isn't important.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the cutoff for a pro-rated bonus can vary significantly depending on the company and its policies. However, there are some general trends and considerations:
Meaningful Work Contribution: If you're contributing meaningfully to the company's operations and not just in a training phase, many would argue you should receive a pro-rated bonus for the time worked. This aligns with the idea that your efforts during that period add value.
Company Perspective: From the company's point of view, they might argue against a pro-rated bonus if the time worked is minimal (e.g., 1-2 months). Anything beyond that, especially a quarter or more, would typically warrant a pro-rated bonus as it represents a significant portion of the year.
Industry Norms: In some industries, bonuses are tied to specific performance metrics or timelines, and joining late in the year might exclude you from eligibility. For example, if bonuses are based on annual performance reviews or year-end results, you might not qualify unless you've been there for a substantial part of the year.
Negotiation and Clarity: It's crucial to clarify bonus eligibility during the hiring process. Some companies explicitly state in contracts or offer letters whether late joiners are eligible for pro-rated bonuses.
