Early Career Crisis Tale

George: "Hey Lennie, you been thinkin' about things, huh?"

Lennie: "Yeah, George. I been thinkin'... Ya know, 'bout this REPE work we been doin'. Ain't sure if I can keep up with them fancy folks. They all went to them big schools, George. Cornell, NYU, places like that. I just feel like I ain't good enough."

George: "Listen, Lennie. I know it feels like that sometimes. Them folks got their fancy degrees and all, but you got your own strengths. Remember that GPA you got? 3.9 outta 4.0. That ain't nothin'. And you cleared that CFA Level 2 while you was still in school. Not many folks can do that, you know."

Lennie: "I guess so, George. But I ain't sure if I can win deals and do all that high-stakes stuff like they do."

George: "Lennie, you been workin' hard for two years in this REPE job. You're learnin' every day. And you're gonna finish that CFA charter. You got a plan to get that MS in Real Estate Finance from a top school, too. You're doin' all the right things."

Lennie: "But what if I can't make it, George? What if I ain't good enough to be like them?"

George: "Look, Lennie. You got somethin' them folks ain't got. You worked your way up from a no-name school. You fought hard for everything you got. That means somethin'. You got grit, and you got skills. Don't let anyone tell you different."

Lennie: "I wanna do good, George. I wanna make sure I got a steady job, where I ain't gotta worry 'bout winnin' deals all the time. Maybe work for a pension fund or somethin'."

George: "That ain't a bad idea, Lennie. Pension funds, they look for folks who can think long-term, manage portfolios, not just chase deals. You finish that CFA, get that master's degree, and keep buildin' your experience. You'll be just fine. You got the brains and the determination."

Lennie: "You really think so, George?"

George: "I know so, Lennie. You just keep at it, stay focused, and remember that you earned everything you got. You ain't inferior to no one. One day, you'll look back and see how far you've come. And I'll be right there with you, every step of the way."

Lennie: "Thanks, George. I feel better now. I'll keep workin' hard, just like you said."

George: "That's the spirit, Lennie. Now let's get back to work and show 'em what you're made of."
