Eastdil Secured
Hey everyone. I’m looking at offers that I currently have and wanted to get a current perspective on peoples opinions of Eastdil as a firm.
I’m very grateful to have the chance to go there, but I’m not sure if I want to be in real estate in the long-run. The deal experience id get there would be incredible, but just real estate focused. Would doing an analyst stint at Eastdil pigeonhole me for the rest of my life? It’s the best offer i currently have and seems like a solid first role out of college.
Yeah I mean it will not be efficient use of your time to work at eastdil if you’re not into RE. Don’t do it
So would it be best to just hold out with nothing else? Not that easy to get another job during these times…
I mean I know nothing about your background. You’re an analyst 2 in IB? Then yeah, hold out
.
You’re never pigeon holed for the rest of your life unless you believe you are. But if you know you don’t want to do real estate, you probably shouldn’t go there. With that said, if you think you may want to do real estate, great spot to start your career. If you then want to switch to something else because you’ve determined real estate isn’t for you, that’s a really easy story to tell from the ages of 22-30 and honestly even beyond. People switch careers all the time.
That’s what I’m trying to gauge. It would definitely give me some amazing experience but how hard would it be to pivot after? I just need a realistic picture on how hard it is to pivot - would I be able to get a top MBA after ES + top REPE ?
Yes. You can move. Would you be asking the same question if you got into Bank of America (or any of I-Bank) and was told you’re doing to be on the Industrials or CPG team?
My point being. You can move around. Try it. If you don’t like real estate you can leave. People move all the time. WSO kids who know nothing like to scare the crap out of people and tell them that when you pick a job when you’re 22, it’s the largest decision you’ll ever make. And that once you pick it, you can’t go back. So you gotta pick the right job or you’re screwed for life. None of that is true. It’s the most ridiculous thing I read on here. But people spew BS and others listen.
Getting into a top MBA with ES on your resume won't be hard if the rest of your profile fits (i.e. you have the GPA, GMAT, and story).
Depends on what you wanna do and what your alternatives are obviously.
Hilarious to me that kids end up in these situations. You applied for a job in an industry you weren’t interested in at all? And then went through several rounds of interviews where you had to explain why you were interested in the job?
I’ve applied for jobs that weren’t my top choice (eg asset management rather than acquisitions), but when i decided I wanted to work in real estate I didn’t apply for jobs in fucking equity research or management consulting or something. What is wrong with kids these days
Lol chill, it’s a tough job market rn, especially for younger folks who are graduating without experience. Everyone needs to start somehwere and yes, you can make a concentrated effort if you know what you want to do, but if not, students will aim in multiple directions. Its obvious OP doesn’t really know what interests them thus far.
Yeah how are you supposed to know where you want to spend the next 30 years as a 22 yo with 2 internships…
I said I wasn’t sure if I was interested in the industry in the long run… anyone can sell themselves for any role. It’s a tough job market and I wanted to explore other options so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with asking about how my decisions will look in the long run.
Do it if you have at least some interest in real estate (which presumably you do since you applied, interviewed, and were accepted).
If you’ve just woken up from a crack-fueled bender to find out you landed a job at the top CRE brokerage firm despite having no interest in real estate, don’t do it.
Can you shed some more light on the role at Eastdil? What city/region? Is it equity or debt? You know they have a group that covers corporate transactions.
It’s generalist across equity/debt/m&a in one of their largest offices
Sorry if I missed it, but if you uncertain if RE is the long term goal for you…what are the other paths you are considering?
what is your current experience? Surprised Eastdil is looking to hire right now, is there a story behind the role opening up?
it’s a great company. Know a lot of people who have used it as a spring board to the buy side with household names. Don’t think the experience would hurt if you don’t have any other options at the moment. Going to be a lot of opportunity in the next 12 months to find creative ways to add value and generate fees.
what’s the comp?
