Exit Opps from Megafund Capital Markets

All,

I am looking to transition to a Cap Markets role at a BX/BAM/STWD. I am currently an analyst at a similar shop.

The cap markets role will be placing mostly debt, and maybe some equity, across all business lines/vehicles. What kind of exits have you seen from a role like this and what kind of exits would I be silo'd from?

Ultimately, I don't know if I want to be in CRE long term and I am hoping this role will give me some optionality since I would be interacting with corporate debt, public markets, etc. If I do stay in CRE, I want to end up in a GP role and hopefully running my own shop/something more entrepreneurial. A few recruiters told me I would still be able to transition into an equity/GP seat later on due to having two solid names on the resume.

In terms of leaving CRE should I instead recruit to lateral into REGL/other IB groups despite the layoffs/job market? Is there a hope of an MBA -> IB -> corp PE or MBA -> corp PE? What about a Masters in Finance?

As you can tell - a little lost. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks guys.
