Risk Mgmt is not good experience if you want to land RE PE role. Also, GE has no equity business right now so limited ops to transfer internally.

As far as GE RE goes, I'd try to land an internship either working with asset management overseeing their legacy equity portfolio or a position with their lending platform. Both skill-sets are transferable for junior level positions.

My issue is similar to this. I got an offer for PERE acquisitions summer internship at a top 10 PERE firm. The only other offer I have is a Risk Management summer internship with one of the largest diversified financial services companies in the world (insurance, real estate, mutual funds).

My end goal would be to work in corporate PE, get my MBA, and 15-20 years later start my own PE firm. Which of these 2 options would be the best starting point for that?

There seem to be a lot of questions in this sub-forum along the lines of, "If I take this real estate job, will I be able to transition to such-and-such role outside of real estate in the future?" You can do anything you want if you know the right people, work smart and hard, and get lucky. But a job in real estate in will probably only lead you to more jobs in real estate.

That said, an acquisitions internship with a top 10 PERE firm sounds like a bad ass gig that you should take in a heartbeat if you have any interest whatsoever in the real estate industry. If you know for some reason, while still in college, that you aren't interested in the real estate business, maybe you should continue looking.

TheSqualeHow good is GE Real Estate ? I have an ITW lined up for an internship in risk management. It would be my first internship in RE what I'm supposed to know ? If my end goal would be to work in REPE, would this be a good experience ? I would appreciate any more info you could have.

As others have said, think debt. Also, think core asset investing. I personally Really don't see risk management at GE Real Estate as being experience that would lead to PERE -- as others have already said, but other people here are more knowledgeable than me on career tracks to PERE, but I just see their business as being far away from that.

Probably. But in fairness, it was the OP that suggested he wanted to work in REPE. The other poster with the REPE internship said he wanted regular-old PE.

My buddy did an internship at GE in their AM group and he told me it was a lot of testing for ARGUS Enterprise. Pretty sure they are still rolling this out, so you might be spending most of your time finding bugs and modeling gaps in the software. I would ask about this at the very least.
