Georgetown MPS - RE vs NYU MSRE
Currently a first year analyst working in dcm at a bank in NoVA/DC. Is it worth it to wait till end of year 2 to quit, move to NYC and go to NYU's msre program or should I get my master's from Georgetown while working and ideally, finishing by end of year 2?
End goal is to land a multifamily acquisitions role anywhere, but the associates in the real estate group at my firm make low 6 figures base (20-30% bonus) so wouldn't hate staying there if the degree would get me a promotion (I think this is a possibility at Georgetown, not NYU).
Is NYU worth the opportunity cost of quitting a job / a year of no pay in pursuit of a repe role or is it just as likely to land an acquisitions role coming from Georgetown's program? I know both schools are far from a guarantee but would like to hear anyone's perspective.
How much value will being in NYC have in terms of recruiting for repe vs DC? Georgetown's lack of alumni base is what worries me but I like Georgetown because if I got a great role outside of DC, I can leave and finish online

Doesn't make much sense to quit and do NYU MSRE FT when you already have a decent job IMO. These schools are about on par, maybe a slight edge to NYU given the location, more established program, and ability to do internships...but on a cost-weighted basis about the same. Given REPE recruiting is so ad-hoc, I believe you'd be better served doing GU's program PT while working, and networking / applying as much as you can in the meanwhile. Join ULI, CREFC, etc.
If it were me, I'd try my best to lateral without doing the masters though...you'll likely have to "start over" as an analyst with or without the degree since you don't have CRE experience yet. Shoot for debt focused roles at RE shops where your background will be an asset, then you can try to make the move to acquisitions at the associate level.

Cornell and MIT's MRE are the only two programs worth the time and money on the east coast. If you're interested in the west coast, I'd say USC is your only option. NYU and G'Town are well known to essentially be "puppy mills," cranking out grads every year with little guidance or educational value.
