Going from Advisory —> buy-side acquisitions
I know a lot of cases where IS analysts at the top brokerages (CBRE, JLL, HFF, C&W) have an easier transition into acquisition roles on the buy-side.
But what about going from an advisory role within those top firms into an acquisitions role. I haven’t seen anyone posting about this. Hence I would like to hear everyone’s thoughts.
What kind of advisory role are you talking about? Who are the clients? How does the job map to a role on the buyside?
See, it is the "fit" of current job to the buyside job that makes the transitions easy vs. hard.... like IS is very related to acquisitions work, so common to see those jumps as an example.
Basically it has two components to the job. First is the valuation of CRE. The second is a consulting function where the role supports buyside firms or institutions on feasibility reports/debt advisory/asset management. The role is within firms like HVS.
