How to get started from nothing? Are REIC or OREA (Canadian) courses worth it?
Hey everyone. Apologies in advance for what is probably a question with a massive, nebulous answer.
Several years ago I found out a distant relative I've never met is a successfull commercial developer in America. I knew nothing about what that entailed and ended up reading up on CRE and have become fairly interested in it. I'm, ideally, interested in becoming a developer/owner myself but don't exactly have an amount of money to enter with that's worth mentioning, and even if I did, I'd frankly have no idea what I'd be doing.
How can I actually learn enough to completely guess at what I'd be doing? How can I get involved in/started in CRE? I know there are courses through things like REIC and OREA (unsure of the American equivalent, sorry) but I'm not sure if just taking a few courses completely unrelated to a degree is a viable or realistic method of getting started. I know there are a ton of larger companies like CBRE, JLL, etc. but I don't have a BComm so I don't think I'm exactly qualified to start that way.
Any advice? Anyone been in or seen a similar situation able to give some guidance? Thank you!
Hi Hammenschrad, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
