Hudson Advisors Interview
Gents, I've gone through a few preliminary interviews with them in NYC. First was with HR, second was with a VP. Compared to other phone interviews I've had with different firms (which unfortunately I have too much experience with), this was the most involved but also the most professional. My feeling is this type of firm is most suitable for folks coming out of banking. The follow up is positive and I'm now wondering what to expect in terms of culture? I've asked around but the only thing I got is that it's bureaucratic. I don't have any connections there so I'm limited with information. Any info about what it's like working there?
It depends what group you would be working in. The culture at the different groups can vary greatly. General hours for most groups are 8-8, obviously longer when deals demand more time. I know a few people in Hudson Advisor's NYC groups. They came from other large RE groups (Pru, JP Morgan, etc.)
One question to ask, if you haven't already, is how does advancement work from the position you will be coming in at? They have a few 3 year associate programs in different groups. They aren't officially three year programs but the vast majority of their associates leave before 36 months are up.
Is this opening in their senior debt group?
just curious, why do they leave before 3 years? Are they pushed out or is the culture that of a sweatshop?
Pushed out mainly. Plenty of associates last less than 36 months due to the hours/culture, but even those that do well there are usually gone by the end of 3 years. I've seen job descriptions for Hudson Advisors where it is explicitly stated that you will need to find a new position after 36-40 months.
Exit opts after those 3 years are pretty great though. KKR, BS, and other megafunds.
Hey, thanks a lot for this. I got a sense of the job being a churn and burn role.
