IB => RE PE ?

I was wondering whether RE PE firms hire IB analysts? Would it be necessary to get Real estate IBD experience? Or move to Private Equity after a few years as an IB analyst and then try for RE PE? I know most real estate funds are tiny and hire mostly people they know, so networking would be essential either way. My question specifically pertains to the UK, but any US insights would also be helpful as I’m sure it’s not too different.
