Interview Questions for Multifamily Development Firm
What sort of questions do you think would be good conversation starters when your speaking with a multifamily developer. So to clarify, if I'm being interviewed by this development firm, what are some high level questions that I could ask them that they might be impressed by or at least show that I know what their day to day life looks like.
What's your background? Are you fresh out of school? Depending on your background its hard to say what kinds of questions you could ask. Someone coming out of school knows very little and only what they've learned in undergrad courses or their internship, whereas someone who has been working a couple of years will have a different set of questions in mind.
I don't think you should worry about asking "high-level" questions. Focus on asking questions about their firm, the specifics of the position. Take a look at their website for their recent developments, if not dig up research online for their most recent developments. Ask about how those deals came to life.
These are some questions I tend to ask, if I can't already find the concrete info on this somewhere: - What are your target markets? -What kind of tenants do they focus on? -Are all parts of the development process in-house, meaning are things like design, construction and property management done all by them? -Do they have partnerships in any part of the process? -Where are they sourcing their capital? Do they have an LP that they go to every time?
Don't get in over your head about what questions to ask. If you don't understand what you're asking, don't ask it. Your questions just need to reflect what you want to know about them and about development.
