Is a MSRE worth it? $50k Georgetown MSRE vs $1k ACRE Accelerator

I got into Georgetown University's Masters in Real Estate program... I would be doing it all online from my home in the mid-west while working FT. I've seen really mixed reviews on it. I already work in Commercial Real Estate for a large private developer. I don't want to waste my company's money, or my time, if I can get the same knowledge from the Adventures in Commercial Real Estate Accelerator.

Thoughts?

Heard good things about the in-person Georgetown Program, but the quality of the online Georgetown program was terrible - nothing more than a checkbox if you've been working in CRE for a few years. Maybe they've stepped up their game since the pandemic started, but my personal experience with the online program was awful. Online students were the red-headed step children and teachers didn't really care to teach. It's a $50k book recommendation and subscription to a Blackboard portal.

The first question you should be asking is why you want to get it to begin with, is it just to advance your own knowledge or are you looking for a serious job switch/gunning for a promotion you'd need a masters for? If it's the former I'd heavily advise against spending the money, if it's the latter it might make sense, but definitely check into the online portion more. I know a few people who used the in-person one to make significant career switches into real estate, but the online one might not offer the same benefit. If you're just trying to do your job better I'd stick with the ACRE accelerator.

Are you planning on going on the job market, moving markets, etc? If you are working for a legit CRE developer already, really hard to say you "need" this degree unless you see it as a pre-req for promotion at your firm or others like it. If you just want modeling and direct knowledge, the online course cert stuff (like A.CRE) may be sufficient. The purpose of the degree comes a lot from acquiring the credential and the network... the actual knowledge is secondary (and not how they justify the price).

Will note, had a personal friend do that exact program (Georgetown online from a distant market), they landed a great job at a very legit developer close to graduation (they were working in cre brokerage and wanted out). So, for some degrees like this are crucial for reaching their career goals, others its just to check a box, not sure where you land on this one.
