Career Resources
They’re one of the biggest student housing developers. Lived in one of their apartments in college. I also went to UGA so know of a lot of guys that end up there. They’re all very chill people.
Haven't heard anything about them other than them being acquired by Ares, which has a great rep. They posted a link on my school's handshake so that's how I know about them, seems solid overall.
Different Landmark
Oh lol, my comment probably sounds real dumb now
Biased cause I went to UGA but they are legit and have seen some solid exits (not exit opps, I mean their developments). I think it’s a tough sell having to live in Athens, GA as a working professional.
Can’t imagine comp is super competitive given cost of living in Athens. But my guess is it would open doors if you’re interested in any sort of housing development
how much fucking runway do these places actually have?? oversupply is a HUGE problem in that business - but then again, maybe i just don't understand because i'm not inside the room with them.
sometimes a developer shakes his head at you like, "i'm glad people think it's a bad business because i'm full steam ahead" and he goes on to keep making more millions.
There are still opportunities in certain markets (Atlanta and Austin come to mind) but it's certainly not 2012 anymore for student housing. I get the impression that a lot of student developers are constitutionally biased toward building in a niche market where competition is limited, as opposed to doing something mainstream like market rate multifamily. Landmark for instance just launched a SFR arm in Atlanta.
best and largest student developer for a number of years. If you’re an investor on the LP side in that space you really want to get in with these guys. Know them well
I've had the opportunity to speak with some student housing developers. Most seemed to only target USNews Top whatever, larger state schools; I'm not sure if this is a strong signal for the asset class' stability going forward.
trash culture. trash location. trash pay.
Could you please elaborate? Was looking into them.
It’s pretty trash, between below industry pay, terrible culture, and having to leave in Athens. Not terrible if you’re a manager though, heard they are generous with the promote
