Macquarie (MAM) - Real Estate PE
Hi All,
Interested in getting your thoughts on the overall group, the real estate division and exit opps after a couple years. What is the pedigree and prestige compared to other big players GSAM, KKR, Carlyle etc..
Historically have been balance sheet investors (core/core+) but are raising a $3B opportunistic real estate fund to focus on “new era” real estate and data centres. Potentially a good way to get top tier data center transaction experience as the sector becomes more institutional.
Solid player and great starting point. Its not comporable to bx, carlyle, ares or even gsam/msrei. More comparable to the large core shops such as nuveen or dws.

Would be slightly accretive even though I would personally choose oxford over macquarie as they are doing very interesting deals

Boring core deals
Like a lot of shops, they are trying to buy their way into the opportunistic space without much human capital like Ares debt did
