Managing Partner Interview
Hi guys, I have a managing partner interview at an REPE firm. I have so far met 3 MD’s and have had no technical skills tests as of yet. I am wondering what I should prepare for as a 1 hour interview sounds like a lot of time for a partner - any tips or questions I’m likely to be asked? Thanks guys!
If you’re meeting the managing partner it’s likely fit. Some firms don’t care to test technicals and will assume they’ll teach you on the job.
Even at the associate level at an institutional firm? 1 hour seems like a lot.. I’m kinda worried
That's how it was for me at my (institutional) shop. Zero technical testing, and almost everything was focused on fit / interested in the asset class / etc
You've met with 3 MDs already and presumably more junior employees before that. If they were going to test you on technicals, they wouldn't leave it to the Managing Partner to do that.
He likely will ask you to walk through a couple deals you've worked on though so know your numbers cold there.
FML. He asked about the type of deals I’ve worked on but not explicitly to walk him through a deal. It was more of a general chat that they could be hiring over next few months. Would it be safe to say they’re interested and I’m front of mind if I’ve come this far? Haven’t met any juniors yet.

Wtf? How did you go through three MD interviews and get here if they aren't hiring yet? Is this an informal thing rather than you having applied through a posting?
If you just reached out through LinkedIn and managed to get meetings with 3 MDs and a partner then I'd say its safe to assume if they do put a posting up and you follow up you'll certainly be in contention.
If there's an actual job posting and they put you through all that to say they might be hiring in a few months, run fast.

You can teach anyone to model a real estate deal. It's much harder to teach social skills.
I can say with confidence the managing partner is not asking you technicals. Unless it’s a 3 or 4 person firm, but if you met 3 MDs, it’s a bigger firm or ‘bigger than small,’ at least.
