MSRE/MRED Admissions Committee

Hey,

For those that are in MSRE/MRED programs such as Columbia, Baker, Cornell and MIT. Are the adcomms similar to  that of MBAs as in they are holsitic? Or are they more catered to real estate?

Should I be more detailed in my application in terms of real estate?

Hey there!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's always a good idea to tailor your application to the specific program you're applying to. If you're applying to a MSRE/MRED program, it would be beneficial to highlight your interest and any experience you have in real estate.

Remember, it's not just about saying you're interested in real estate, but also demonstrating why. Do you have a personal connection to the field? Maybe you have a deep interest in architecture, urban planning, or you've been influenced by family members in the construction industry.

Also, consider the unique aspects of real estate that appeal to you. Do you like the idea of shaping and influencing entire communities? Or perhaps you're drawn to the tangible nature of the asset class and the ability to add value to your investments.

In terms of the admissions committees, while I can't speak for every program, it's likely that they're looking for candidates who are truly passionate about real estate. So, being more detailed in your application about your interest in real estate could certainly give you an edge.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your application!

They're more holistic because there is no ranking and they don't have to make sure their average GPA is X or GMAT score is Y or whatever. You should definitely focus on real estate when applying to a real estate masters program...
