Not Landing an Internship 2nd Time Around

I took a gap year this year, a decision largely based off the fact that I couldn’t land an internship last summer in my true junior year.

This time around I still can’t land anything. Getting interviews or even replies is really hard to come by. I go to Ohio State and have an okay GPA at 3.4.

What’s the full time job outlook ahead of me for next year or is it best to just look for another career path at this point since this is the second time around for me?

Wish I had some more advice to give you besides keep networking. It’s the best thing you can do. Why weren’t you able to land an internship pre-covid? If something was wrong with the way you’re approaching networking/job hunting then reevaluate your strategy and go from there. Also what type of job are you looking for? You want to REIB, repe, development, brokerage? Expand your search get something relevant on the resume and go from there. I had to take an unpaid IS internship this year and that helped me get more responses from people and they were willing to help me out more. So if it comes to that take an unpaid internship (if you absolutely have too).

With the firms I’ve talked with so far, a lot of them aren’t particularly concerned with hiring interns at the moment. They were sympathetic toward me and my search for a development role straight out of UG but couldn’t help me more than connecting me with others and telling me to continue to network as much as I could. So don’t be too disheartened with how things are going it’s a strange time (hopefully coming to an end soon) Ohio is a decent school (PSU is better, but whatever) so network like it’s your full time job and something may come your way.
