NYC Council Member Wants City to Take Over Distressed Properties

Read about this today, apparently the guy wants to avoid a "feeding frenzy" from private developers. What do you all think? Is there any merit to what he's saying? Or is he commie, who hates America and capitalism?

Agreed, the gov't shouldn't play a bigger role than the one it already does. Honestly, if the city stayed out of the way, NYC might be more affordable. The same goes for cities like SF. I won't be surprised if one these commies suggest land should be owned by the city, and they make gulags for anyone who doesn't agree with them. This is 15-30 years out. On a more serious note, I understand some limits have to be placed, there is such a thing as too much capitalism, but to cripple private businesses in your city is absurd.
