Offer Decisions
Curious on thoughts here, have offers from groups that I am weighing and need to make a decision on. Both NYC based (sr analyst / associate level). Have approx 3 YOE.
1. Newer PE group currently raising first rounds of capital to focus on gp and pref opportunities throughout the country. Multi and industrial.
2. Well established EDSF team in NYC. Asset class and geographically agnostic. Primary focus on equity capitalizations.
In your first option, where is the capital coming from, does the team have experience doing 1-off deals opposed to fund level, what is the background of the team? More specifically, looking at the direct managers background, would you want to be in his shoes.
Was in a kinda similar situation except my first option was on fund 3 and the other one is probably just below mega fund tier? Chose the smaller company for future upward opportunities and I liked that I would have more responsibilities early on.
Hope this is helpful.
Primarily insurance backed I believe. Has a lot of experience in both one off deals and fund level deals.
There's a big difference between raising money and committed money. Unless they have already raised the money miss me with that bs. I would demand astronomical comp to take that risk at this point in the cycle.
Agreed. Capital is already raised and available.
Then my biased opinion would be #1 as it' similar to what I did, but it's really about who do you wanna be. Some guys are great brokers others are great investors. And I know a lot of brokers that are much richer than acquisitions guys. They are VERY different jobs (l've done both extensively). If you go with the acquisitions job I just can't emphasize enough how critical it is to understand how much capital has been raised, from who, and what that means for your deal capacity. Cuz if you have to bank on additional commitments over the next year or two, it just aint worth the years itll shave off your life.
Can I PM you about your broker experience?
