I can't seem to find much information on this forum about Principal Financial Group. I believe they run multiple areas in real estate, but curious to hear your thoughts? Not sure what their exact function is.

Ah, the Principal Financial Group conundrum! While the WSO jungle doesn't seem to have a treasure trove of information on them, let's swing through what we do know:

  • Principal Financial Group is a global financial investment management and insurance company. They're known to have a hand in various pots, including real estate.
  • In the realm of real estate, they're involved in real estate investment, which can range from direct property ownership and management to real estate investment trusts (REITs).
  • As for their exact function, they typically would be managing assets on behalf of clients, looking to get a solid return on investments through various real estate ventures.

Now, if you're looking for the nitty-gritty on their culture, compensation, or specific roles, you might have to go on a bit of an expedition. Networking with current or past employees, reaching out on professional platforms, or even a direct inquiry could unearth the insights you're after.

Remember, in the financial jungle, sometimes you have to forge your own path to uncover the hidden gems!

I have some info, just curious - is this for their rotation program out in Des Moines? Or are you just curious about the firm? Regarding functions, what group are you curious about?

Yes they’re rotational. Ended up getting some good color on them. Pretty much all core risk wise. Four 6-month rotations across CMBS, PE, and two others I can’t recall. I have more details if your curious, made it all the way through but never accepted. Seems like a very good culture (9-5), and place to learn/develop but they’re exclusively based out of des-moines for RE. Had calls with a few REPE shops, some have good things to say and others have no clue who they are.

Apologies if I made a mistake this is off the top of my head.

Good on my end - have a lot of info regarding the firm. I'm assuming one of the rotations would be in a group dedicated to industrial? Iirc they do a ton of deals - they've been hitting home run after home run last time I recalled.

Nice team, and scale-wise there aren't many that are bigger. You do have to live in Des Moines, but it's a nice town if you don't mind giving up the ability to live in a big city. Personally, it's a job I would take when I'm ready to start having kids then something I would take in my early 20's.
