RE Development - Construction Online Course?

Background: Associate at a firm that focuses on Multifamily development. Understand financials/numbers, research/feasibility, etc well. However, I feel like there’s a lot of room for growth when it comes to actual construction/the construction process. Does anyone have any good courses (like a REFAI for construction) or sources of learning they could share?

Thank you,

What are your interactions with the general contractor like? Are you able to have some dialogue with them to ask questions and understand different stages of construction?

I'm in a similar boat as you, but our GC is in-house, they're another company, but i feel that i'm able to ask things and walk the site and get more knowledge from there. i'm not a construction expert but able to gather enough info to understand what's going on and what to expect in the next phase of construciton.

There's not been any course that i've been recommended before but a couple folks in the industry recommended to me a book https://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Building-Construction-Materials-Met… Fundamentals of Building Construction: Materials and Methods. Honestly haven't read it in depth though or enough to say its made a difference but i'd say it might be worth checking out.

Bought this book when I first started Development gig, after another user mentioned it. Have made it through probably 40-50%.. and honestly it’s helped a lot. Obv nothing better than being on the ground asking GC and architect questions but this book helped me understand terms that are second nature to these guys. It explains the anatomy of a building, site conditions and constraints, means/methods for delivery, etc. Paired with field experience, should make anyone dangerous enough to contribute (or at least not feel lost) in OAC meetings or during the design process.
