My old firm sent me to Kahr a couple years ago. If you're entry level, I recommend Kahr's advanced excel course.

I would say that maybe 1/4 of the students in the course were guys like me - fresh grads with little exp who were sent their by their respective REPE firms. The rest were older dudes with many years in the business who were trying to augment their exp with modelling skills.

Afraid I am not employed by any REPE firm for now, I intend to use such training to break into the business. Really don't want to spend my own money flying to NYC to attend the Kahr course.

I see. If you can spare/borrow the cash, go for it. If its a struggle, forget about it.

See link - http://www.kahrrealestate.com/exceltraining.shtml

There is a list of excel functions (vlookup, sumif, etc); I suggest that you at least learn those functions. Youtube has plenty of "how-to" videos. Even today I will go on youtube if I ever encounter an excel function/concept I am not familiar with.

Yes, I believe school is more for networking purpose than obtaining practical knowledge

Agreed, I do think it is a joke to pay so much. Especially since you need to constantly refine your skills. Practice makes perfect.

With that being said, just passed the Argus DCF Certification Exam.

Hi tbux22, congratulations! How long did it take you to study and pass the Argus certification exam?

I've seen people study full-time for 2 months and get fired for not ever passing the Argus exam after multiple tries, which is quite hilarious is a cruel way. I think if you have no knowledge of real estate finance and are a smart person you can do it easily in a work week... Everyone will vary wildly from those two assumptions, though.
