RE PE in Orange County, CA

Anyone have insights into work-culture, compensation at following RE PE firms in OC?

Raintree Partners Bascom Redwood-Kairos

I can find some news on Bascom but Redwood and Raintree keep a very low profile. Thanks,

Can't comment on culture/comp at Bascom, but they seem to have high turnover throughout the past years in the acquisition department. Know they lost some clients due to the loss of about 1/3 of their portfolio a few years back, but they did recently close on a large JV with Oaktree for a multi-family portfolio in Las Vegas. Seems from the people that I've spoke with, that Bascom has a mixed reputation.

I can say that I have heard similar regarding Bascom. They have dry powder and will be active through this cycle, but they historically have experienced a lot of turnover at least on the acquisition staff side.

Raintree does keep a low profile. I know one of the guys there. They occasionally will post openings for analyst level types, I think the senior staff has been in-place since the beginning and wouldn't expect any opportunities there.

Redwood, not to sure about. I know they have put out JV/preferred equity with some operators. One guy I met at a conference a few years ago used to work there circa 2010-2011, and I didn't get the sense that he enjoyed his time there.

Just my 2cents.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the info

Bascom - I have seen the turnover on LinkedIn as well. Bascom's reputation is mixed at our firm as well.

I found that the principal at Redwood is Michael Chang's (tennis player) brother. I looked at the team on the website and it seems like a pretty small shop.

Generally speaking, What does one look for when interviewing at PE firm? Work culture wise and/or team wise? Besides the bigger PE players, how do you really evaluate a smaller PE player...

I would like to bump the OP's previous comment: "Generally speaking, What does one look for when interviewing at PE firm? Work culture wise and/or team wise? Besides the bigger PE players, how do you really evaluate a smaller PE player... "

I have wondered this myself and have found it hard to develop a concrete opinion on a firm and its team after a couple of interviews. Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks.
