Real Estate Industry

I have been working in my field for 14 years now (am a CEO) and I am wondering if it is a good idea to go into the real estate industry now. I was told it was a good idea in 2007, and made the mistake of not asking around. We lost over 150K in the recession (luckily we pulled out quick and only lost .23%). Hearing from some of the most experienced and some fresh blood in the industry will quell my nerves on making major investments in Real Estate around the country (maybe we'll go into international later) starting Q1 next year.

There are definitely opportunities in real estate right now, but given how late we are in this super cycle you need to be cautious about where you place your money. People investing in the 95th class A multifamily development in major cities must have a crystal ball or know something I don't. The continued growth of ecommerce presents a interesting opportunity for investment into industrial assets. The focus on class A multifamily has crated some interesting opportunities in the Class B/C multifamily space as well. I think there are a lot of opportunities on the debt side of the capital stack as well.
