Real Estate MF Equity Associate Recruiting
I'm wondering what the recruiting schedule for real estate private equity associates looks like at megafund RE shops (Blackstone, Brookfield, Apollo, KKR etc). I'm going to be starting at a large fund in their RE debt group soon, and am looking to switch over to the equity side in the future. I know that regular PE firms start associate recruiting essentially right after analysts start at investment banks, and was wondering if RE associate recruiting follows the same, or a similar schedule. Additionally if anyone could recommend any resources that might be helpful in preparing for interviews, that would be great
From what I have seen in RE, it’s all about connections. A lot of positions are never posted. You get them by knowing someone at the firm or having a good recruiter.
When I was around 2-5 years experience I would get hit up by recruiters working these assignments on a pretty random basis. Summertime seemed to have the most frequency. Never for positions in advance, it would always be to fill a vacancy in the next 1-3 months.
Wanted to bump on this, interested in recruiting now and wondering if there’s been any traction from any MFs lately
For all of the firms you mentioned, they are on the on-cycle recruiting process with regular PE. In some cases they don't fill the class with all bankers so there is more variability with laterals
I’ve heard they usually do, but it looks like the last on-cycle they didn’t do that. So trying to figure out the current landscape.
Have heard that REPE teams don’t follow on cycle like PE teams at these MFs. Seems like it’s more through networking and occasional job postings and recruiters on an as needed basis
That is wrong, almost all of them recruit on-cycle: BX, Carlyle, Apollo, TPG, Bain, Cerberus, Brookfield, etc
