As the title says, Starwood and BGO are two of the biggest real estate only firms. Not asking which is better, because obviously ymmv, just looking for anecdotes/thoughtful thoughts from those who may currently work there or used to work there in the NYC office. Heard great things about BGO in general and on the other hand have heard negative sweat shop related anecdotes about starwood

if you’re chasing just prestige then starwood sweeps no doubt
not prestige, meant more cultural, is BGO cut throat and sweaty in NYC?
not as bad as starwood culture but still gotta put in the hours
Starwood: Founded 1991, $115B AUM.
BGO: Founded 2019, $83B AUM.
Definitely different business models, but BGO has a hell of growth path, is overall latest / greatest on the block. My firm works a ton with BGO, basically nothing bad to say from that perspective.
agreed different firms at the core, BGO got a big boost with the merger with bentall kennedy in 2019 (i think?). Sonny Kalsi seems like a good guy, and that makes it seem like BGO has good culture, but obviously could not be true, have the people youve worked with at BGO seemed happy?
Of the two CO-CEOs, Sonny is more the charismatic personality leader, John Carrafiell is more traditional, humble, straightforward, grounded leader. Ppl seem happy, culture seems good / cool. Buddy of mine there left right after making associate. Didnt want to do their grind anymore. Cred he gained from working there resulted in a nice trade off at a younger, smaller, private firm which he works at now. Probably closer to the actual real estate and deals now, who doesn’t want that.
