I was wondering if anyone on here had some good real estate resources / primers / articles they were willing to share? I'm looking for articles / resources that go a bit deeper than just scratching the surface of the topic. Whether it's retail, office, hotel, yield, yield compression, rents, financing or something else is not that important. I just want good, solid resources / articles that go a little bit more in depth. The more the better. I have attached two myself as examples of what I'm looking for.

Commerical Real Estate - Books/Guides/Models (Originally Posted: 07/05/2016)
Hi,
I got a lot of great feedback when I asked about common questions for an analyst position in a large commercial real estate company some time ago, and I'm now hoping the community can help me once more. I went on to the next round as an analyst in acquisitions but I don't have any background in real estate. I have a masters in finance, so I know about DCFs and stuff like that. However, NOI and cap rates is fairly new to me. I know some of the basics like:
Potential Gross Income - Vacancy - Operating Expenses = NOI -- Overly simplified NOI / Cap Rate = Value Exit Yield etc.
But I want to grasp the valuation of commercial real estate fully, and as such I would really appreciate it if someone could share books, guides and even models that are more advanced than the most basic ones. I'm thinking something like CFA, where stuff is explained and not only presented. Suggestions are appreciated and silver bananas will once again be awarded. PMs are also welcomed.

Hello Bodacious, I also have a M.Sc Fin and a CFA charter. If I remember correctly my CFA2 package was covering RE. (Overview obv) If you have specific questions feel free de PM me. I just started in RE Investment (acquisitions and dev.) (6 months ago), used to work in portfolio management and I wanted to invest in something more concrete. Obv, still model in excel a lot, but I prefer the deal driven environment and get to be involved with different people..eng, architect, urbanist, politician..Anyway I'd be glad to help.
Look into the CCIM or CRI designations. CCIM is a very well respected designation but does not cover portfolio-level analysis. The Chartered Realty Investor covers both property and portfolio level. Also consider appraisal designations like the MAI and MRICS.
Do CCIM/CRI have study guides like CFA or is it just live courses? I couldn't find any. Thanks.

Kinda depends on what you're doing now.
Real Estate acquistions. I'm trying to make relationships between credit, fixed income with real estate itself.
Either but having knowledge of structured products if you go the credit route will give you a boost.
Books: handbook of fixed income, inside the yield curve(not nearly as good)

I want to give a little background information firstly. I am a Communication Major at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I originally started school as an urban planning major, and realized I didn't want to be involved in the institutional and policy-making aspect of the subject. I turned to Communication simply because I wasn't entirely sure with the direction I wanted to take in college. I began taking sales and advertising classes, and have managed to get an internship with a small real estate developer in the Chicago area; the position is a sales and marketing position, and ultimately, if I do well, could lead to a full-time position with the office. I have always had an interest in the real estate industry, from sales to development and Asset Management. I have taken some courses in intermediate economics, but none in corporate finance, and none in upper-level economics, which I feel could come in handy on the job. I will be a senior next year, so I still have the opportunity to take some of this coursework, but ultimately, I feel the burden falls on myself to better my knowledge in these subject areas. I feel that this position could help me transition to a career in development and asset management, but I know that there is a lot I need to learn in order to be successful in the field, especially because my degree will be as broad as it is. So my question is, what would be some good resources to tap into and build my knowledge and skills in these subject areas?

Resource for understand impacts to RE of new Tax Law (Originally Posted: 01/22/2018)
Does any of you have a good resource for understanding broad impacts to commercial RE as an asset class? There have been a ton of articles in the WSJ, etc, but nothing seems to go into much depth. I have tried reading the actual law, but its a huge pain in the ass as it is written as excerpts and replacements to the existing code, and you have to constantly switch between 2 documents. Also, much of it is very vague and I am not a tax lawyer.
I'm not talking about things like the mortgage interest tax deduction cap of $750k, I am talking more about things that will affect larger players in RE.
