Real estate to... ...Aviation Finance (Aircraft leasing) How to make the change?

Hi all!

A super-exotic one for you lads,

I am working at a REAM firm in Investments and my dream job is to work in aircraft leasing. It's a very niche industry with a few key players employing just over 2000 people controlling 1/3rd of the world fleet.

I read here https://www.mergersandinquisitions.com/aircraft-l… that the asset's nature is quite similar. In fact they are both real assets, they give a yield and require specific maintenance, so I see some overlapping skills there.

Does any of you know anything about such career transition?

This is a super-specific question, I know, but if anyone knows anything about this please be so kind to share your thoughts.

Best!

I don't know your experience level or anything, but Fortress has an opening within their Transportation and Infrastructure team. (http://careers.fortress.com/careers/JobDetail/New-York-New-York-United-…)

Per the description, "FTAI Aviation owns and acquires high-quality jet engines and commercial aircraft, which are leased to operators or third parties. The Company is externally managed by an affiliate of Fortress Investment Group LLC, which has a dedicated team of professionals who collectively have acquired over $17 billion in transportation-related assets since 2002. As of September 30, 2018, FTAI had total consolidated assets of $2.5 billion and total equity capital of $1.06 billion."

Just something to think about since you are interested in Aviation

I feel like this is really niche (or at least it is to me), but there's a private reit based close to DC that's owned by Brookfield Property Partners and they're planning to expand their team in aviation-related investing. Might be a good idea to see if they are planning to grow out their team:
