Real Estate Valuation & Accounting Internship
doing an internship in real estate valuation/accounting for a large well regarded hedge fund (10B+). What is the perception of an internship like this? Will it pigeonhole me as a bookkeeper, or could i use my valuation experience to push toward the acquisitions/investments side of things? Thanks in advance.

This is a little bit too general of a question for me to properly answer.
I started with a valuation background and after 2.5 years transitioned to private equity acquisitions. Real estate valuation is underrated around this site but it gives you a great boots on the ground research and due diligence training if you are at the right shop. The reality is once you understand how to gather and analyze information to solve for valuation it is easy to learn how to solve for return. I would make sure you are getting deep into the underwriting process and are being taught the different approaches to value, particularly the income approach, if you would like to obtain the most applicable skills to acquisitions.
Other specific information that would help me guide you further:
Property types you will be working on in the internship
Property types you would like to work on in your future acquisitions job
Is your job more valuation or accounting oriented? This is a unique blend and not quite sure why you would be doing both.
