REPE Networking Call with a Principal of the Company

So I have applied and networked a good bit for a REPE analyst job coming out of my senior year. Still in the couple weeks before interviews, I got "back in" contact with one of the firm principals who came and spoke in one of my classes (he knows I was there, we spoke briefly after and I got his business card). Because this was a year ago I reached out to call to essentially put my name on his radar, and have a call scheduled now. I am wondering, considering I heard much of his personal story in my class and know the basics from analysts there, what do I ask him/ how do I approach the call?

Do you remember anything of value from his personal story? If so, bringing it up and asking an insightful question about a specific part of it can show that you genuinely took interest in him.

"I remember you said you did X, right? That's pretty different from most people I talk to. What caused you to go that route?"

Otherwise, approach the call with the mentality that if you do it right, he'll offer you a job on the spot. It probably won't happen, but the man isn't talking to you just to waste time. He either wants to be a mentor or is literally looking for potential junior employees - two things that would be good for you. If he doesn't have any openings (and he may not - market sucks right now) make sure you end the convo by asking for 3 other people he thinks you should talk to or that he could introduce you to.

I remember most of his career journey, and recently heard him speak on a panel speaking even more to his career journey, etc. Almost feel like I know or should know the answer to all of those questions?

To your other point, I agree. They are hiring at least one position for their job posting, and know my school has become one of their "target schools" as well
