REPE On Cycle Recruiting

Incoming analyst in CMBS originations for a large bank with an established CRE analyst program. I’ve been looking through LinkedIn and have seen a number of analysts from my group exit into mega funds.

I’m personally not set on REPE and don’t really have the mindset of mf or bust. I also understand that 99% of firms hire ad hoc. I really just want to throw my hat in the ring if possible and see what happens. I was wondering though which firms hire on cycle like traditional PE and how I could prepare for it. Also adding that I am not in nyc so curious what the process might look like for nyc based teams.

Really appreciate that info. Have a couple follow on questions.

1: What backgrounds are these firms that recruit on cycle looking for. I’m sure REGAL IB makes up the majority of candidates but curious if you’d happen to know if they’d consider other backgrounds.

2: In terms of headhunters, which headhunters would you focus on connecting with? Should I be reaching out to them? Also if so, should I be discussing this with them while still in my senior year or wait for my ft to start in July.

3: Would you happen to know how the process looks for those not based in NYC?

1. not sure tbh

2. I believe there are lists out there for who covers what, cpi & hsp come to top of mind. Spring of senior year would reach out.

3. no, but i do know jefferies charlotte regal does place, so they do it somehow
