Should I be hung up on job title?
I am currently a 3rd year analyst in investment sales at a top brokerage, looking to leave soon. There doesn’t seem to be a ton of great top tier acq roles on the buyside, so would taking another analyst role, (specifically as a DSF analyst), at another top brokerage be a lateral move/set me behind the curve? Even if pay is more in line with an associate role.
Bump
I’d agree to a title of “Captain Dickhead” if they paid me enough.
You said comp is better. If the experience and the team are better too, be an analyst for a bit longer. It’s not like banking where it matters.
Really depends on the situation. Because you also want to move up in the world. And the reality is - some people reviewing your resume will wonder why you took an analyst role while others won’t care. Situation dependent for you to decide.
I’d argue it’s easily explained and anyone who listens to the explanation and still docks you is a complete hardo who you don’t want to work for/with anyway.
Titles by and large in CRE do not matter like they do in banking. My firm has 30+ year old senior analysts who gets paid better than some buyside associates.
Title Matters and it doesn't. As long as you are learning in your career, it shouldn't matter.
I would suggest asking for a title of senior analyst, or associate
