For me, I’ve started actively recruiting once I realized that my current firm is stretched too thin on the management side and that as an analyst I wasn’t actually learning the fundamentals.
My last straw before I gave up on the firm was a recent fire drill when a model I had uw for a JV deal was discovered to have a massive fundamental flaw in it. Normally I would feel the brunt of this but this was “model_v6”. I sent the same model out for review and tweaked it enough for that many versions before my direct manager actually bothered to take a deeper look and find issue and that sent me over the edge

Controversial

You're blaming your manager for a mistake you made????!!!!! How tf do you not know YOUR model like the back of your hand. Get off tiktok and learn fucking excel jesus man.

This generation is actually cooked.

Hey dipshit, solid reasoning

Everyone starts somewhere. If my manager approved 5 iterations of my model before discovering a mistake, there is absolutely grounds for calling them out for that. Accountability doesn’t stop just because you go up the hierarchy ladder. It’s not outlandish that someone 9 months into their career won’t be putting out perfect results but it is absolutely a manager’s responsibility to flag errors as soon as possible

Acquisition’s Year 6 NOI wasn’t tax adjusted when I calculated the reversion value in a 5yr hold. Stupid mistake, I’m well aware. I’m just surprised that the mistake coasted by multiple reviews with my manager before it was discovered. It’s not like this was my first pass on the deal

I’m going to go against the grain here and say you’re right. You obviously made a mistake that’s pretty 101, should always assume a tax reassessment after purchase unless the county’s tax cycle is after your hold period but even then your boss will want to know the tax adjusted cap rate. Either way at the right shop you get this experience and will have the safe guards in place to not only have someone catch this but they’ll also teach you how to underwrite it and explain how different states do it.

Definitely look for a place where you get that experience. Now might not be the best time to find that place so in the meantime just learn from it, not a huge deal so long as you do.

I think back to what was said in the beginning of the job, if those things held in place or not. If they didn't follow through, was it the fault of the company/team or was it out of their control? Also, does it look like i've grown at this job, and will that continue?

If things haven't followed through for you or don't look like it's going to, then yeah it's probably time to start searching elsewhere.

If you need a change in perception.

This applies to employers and partnerships.  If your bosses or partners, despite you proving yourself and growing, still sees you or treats you (or pays you) as the same junior when first started, then invest your time with new people who will see you as you are now.
