It's hard to fight anxiety, especially for an interview. What you can do is trying to appear less anxious:

  • Make sure your hands are always dry before shaking hands (dry them on your trousers in case)
  • Make eye contact; smile
  • When sitting, keep your hands on the table, not on your legs
  • Make sure you always have a glass of water available (tip: if you need to gain time to reply, you can just drink a glass of water instead of saying "eeeeeeeeehm")

Nobody is out to get you.

They either like you or they don't really care about you. Take solace in that.

The person who is interviewing you knows you are nervous. A normal human being isn't going to hold that against you. If you made it to the final round, they like you enough to offer you the job. If they thought you were a weirdo or an idiot, you wouldn't have made it this far.

Make sure your palms are dry and try to take deep breaths. You got this.

I agree with this. I went through a period of intense anxiety & panic attacks after being laid off many years ago and it was awful. My eyes would get red and water, palms would get sweaty, faster breathing, nausea etc. Pretty miserable when you're trying to interview.

My doc prescribed me Propranolol and it helped immensely for interviews and important presentations. I don't use it much anymore, but would recommend it if you're having a hard time.

Try to mentally role play the interview upfront.
Get a quiet place, close your eyes and focus on what it would be like from start to finish. Try different scenarios and questions thrown at you but with an optimistic outcome, so you won’t feel that nervous when it’s actually happening.

You don’t get that far when you’re a dummy or they didn’t believe you’re a fit. So relax and nail it. You can do it.
