Was told another candidate would come in to interview after final round. What to think of this?
I, among at least two others, completed a final round of interviews several days ago. I was told it was between the three of us and I would hear back soon. The other day I was told that they decided to bring another candidate in to interview. I really do not know how to feel about this, since I was told it was between myself and a few others at that point. I guess I feel good that it's not a "no" at the moment, but also I can assume they did not love my interviews enough to extend an offer? Has anyone experienced this before and what are my odds of receiving an offer? Thanks in advance.
Go with your gut on this one. If they really wanted you, they would have extended an offer and not brought another candidate to interview. I've experienced the same situation, and every single time a firm has said they were still interviewing candidates, they've ended up rejecting me.
That's too bad. It's unfortunate as I thought my interviews went well. The fact that there are two other candidates that took part in the final rounds and they still want to bring in one more person to interview is interesting to me though. I still have hope, since I am assuming they would have just said "no" instead of prolonging it another week or two if they did not think I was fit for the position.
Could be a timing thing with the late candidate just slower in the process, or they aren't quite sold on you.
No real way to know, but keep your head up.
We've done this before, For us, it was just that a really interesting candidate got referred to us at the last minute and we wanted to see them through before making a decision. We ended up going with one of the first candidates. I wouldn't overthink it - just because they don't love you enough at this point to not bring in a last second candidate doesn't mean they won't love you once you start working there (if you get an offer). They hardly know you after just a few interviews.
Funny story - when I interviewed years ago for my position, I always thought one of our Principals didn't like me. I got the sense just from the interviews and continued to feel that way after I started. Well, I later on found the tracker they were using to rate candidates that he rated me the highest out of all the candidates and he rated me higher than anyone else at the company. Actually, I thought I crushed it with one of the VP's and was sure they had to be the one that spoke up for me. Nope. They gave me the lowest rating out of anyone on the team and marked me low for being a team fit. Point being is don't read into it too much.
Interviewing 3 analysts now and just put them all on hold for a week to rush one late referral through the process. TBD who we go with, but my gut tells me it'll be one of the first candidates on hold. This probably happens quite a bit, especially when the process is pretty informal like my firm's. Yes, this does mean that we weren't 100% sold already on the first 3, but it doesn't mean they won't get the offer.
Just heard the same. Can you share what market and/or firm this was for?
