What would my path to Blackstone be?

No I'm not an intern...

I currently work at a $40B+ AUM allocator/direct owner as a portfolio management associate in a HCOL city. I'm early 30's with about 5 years of RE experience, incl 6 months of institutional experience at my current shop and 3 years at a smaller operator working as a generalist.

I don't meet the traditional requirements of the typical recruit (never did on-cycle recruiting or IB, and didn't go to a target). I did well academically and am currently in a seat at a recognizable firm (we transact with Blackstone, either through acquisitions or financing).

What would be my best path to landing a seat at Blackstone? Would I be an outlier if I were to come in as, say, a 35-year old MBA associate? Could I come in as a 40-year old VP after a stint as a VP at a smaller institutional firm?

I'm sure the "MD at a smaller allocator" route has a much better value proposition - I'm just curious about the BS route.
