When should I start recruiting for FT

I am a senior graduating in Dec 2022, I have a SA gig this summer in NYC with a REPE firm that runs super lean. When I signed with them, they told me that they prefer their analysts to have 2 years of experience, so a return offer will likely not happen.

When should I start looking for a FT gig? I have contacted my network and cruised Linkedin/Handshake but all the roles now seem to be last minute for this summer. I would prefer to begin working in Dec, rather than waiting 6 months to start in the summer. Any thoughts on this?

I would start as soon as possible. You may not see roles for your desired time frame, but always good to have a pulse on the market, and when roles do start appearing you will be the first (hopefully) to hit that apply button. I would also start networking heavy now and be able to talk shop with your network during your internship.

One thing I would say is, why the rush to start working after school? Unless money is a crucial component, and I know for many it is, it does not hurt to take some time off between school and work. It will probably be the last time in your life when you can relax a little and enjoy life. You may say that you will take a month off to travel here or go there, but that almost never happens, and taking longer vacations at junior levels is much more difficult that you think.

I graduated in 2020 and had my initial job offer rescinded due to covid. The additional 4 months it took to job hunt were actually quite nice for me. I got to relax, work on some hobbies, and got a little extra time to determine what my goals were. I would not take this opportunity for granted.
