Writing Sample Requested?

Just went on an interview for a REPE analyst/associate role. At the end, the team requested I send them a writing sample… I’ve never been asked this before, and I’m just confused with what to send. Obviously all my write-ups for my current role are confidential… even if blacked out I feel uncomfortable. Additionally, I’ve been out of school for a couple years now and can’t just send in any real estate related case study samples/projects, right?

Any comment/advice is helpful, thanks.

Had to do this for my first job out of college but was given a property to write about. I would just pick a building located in the city your'e interviewing in and write-up a mock investment overview.

For IB I've actually used old college essays (2 years old, looking for full time out of school) - Ask and if they say that's fine, use that.

Best thing to do is ask for clarification on what they want.

A quick email on exactly what they're looking for. Because if you send them a college essay you wrote but what they really want is a mock-up investment analysis/overview, you're going to look dumb.

I'd be interested in any info as well. Have a couple of interviews I am prepping for, and one requested that I bring along a writing sample. Can you please send?

Thanks!

Writing samples can be everything from a basic report, to an essay, or contribution. For interviews at some firms I have done in the past, I typed up an analytical paperwork on current topics, or technical writing.

Sounds like you have it figured out. Once I had to write a market section on a property during an interview. I was discombobulated at first like what do you want me to do? They were just checking to make sure you know how to read and write.
