join many real estate organizations, like ULI/NAIOP/ICSC/etc. and get actively involved in at least one and even two. Then join boards/committees and try and get a leadership role; this is super easy as they always need volunteers. Pro tip... the 'programming' committee is the best, it gives you a license to contact people to ask to speak at event, talk about super-charged networking! Semi-Pro tip.... you can use the membership directories to get emails/numbers of people to call on; the 'I just joined NAIOP and want to reach out to fellow members' is going to get a lot of responses (equal if not better than contacting alum). Since most of these groups have dirt cheap student memberships, this isn't hard to do (seriously, join ALL you can find, little down side when dues are often like $50 for year, after graduation this goes up to like $350 to $1000).

I realize COVID kinda knocks maybe 50% to 90% of the value off at the present, but these groups are still having board meetings and events via Zoom. So really, you can still do this!

Top tier NE program.

1. Don't say corny shit like this.

2. Get to know your alumni network as well as possible. Obviously network outside of the program and school alumni, but alumni are a powerful force.

3. Make some friends. The people you go to school with, and the people the year above and behind you if it's a 2-year program, are going to be your strongest same-level network for some time after graduation. Go to lunch, grab beers after class, watch sports together, play golf, etc.
