Combining Work Experience From Similar Firms Into One Section on Resume?

Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question regarding my resume. I had to transfer from one firm to a competitor after one year due to personal reasons and I'm wondering if I can just combine these sections instead of breaking them out separately on my resume. Basically, the switch I made is the equivalent of working at BAML as a 1st year analyst and then going to Credit Suisse for my 2nd year and beyond. I was wondering if I could combine the two so that it looks like the following:

BAML/Credit Suisse (start date at BAML) -Present
Investment Banking Analyst

Instead of:

BAML (start date at BAML) - (end at BAML)
IB Analyst

Credit Suisse start date at - Present
IB 2nd Year Analyst

I know the later is the traditional way of doing it, but I feel it would unnecessarily waste space because what I'm doing at the two firms is damn near identical. Any thoughts on whether this is acceptable or how to minimize this space?

Thanks!
